Underneath Rodinion’s flesh, beneath a layer of skin and blood, were networks of caverns. They spread out like spiderwebs in every direction. Rodinion’s entire body, from the trees that grew from its back to the stalactites that hung above, lived. A thin film covered the cavern surfaces, searing Saturion’s cloak as he entered.

The caverns were large enough for a grown man to stand with ease but Saturion chose to fly, taking care not to touch the film. He followed the winding pathways. Each led to a different landscape, miniature worlds all their own. Saturion scoured them all. The Nest, he felt, was close.
